All in a day’s work!

Came across one of those “chainmail” type reads on Facebook and I have to say, it REALLY struck a chord within me. My husband is ACTUALLY an accountant (although not in a bank!) and I – well, although I’m working now, wasn’t working for quite some time after relocating here to be with him and I think that when the kids do come along, I may not go out to work for a bit.. Finances and resources permitting.

Anyhoo, I know A loves me and all but sometimes, I wonder if he realises how hard I work, home or otherwise. Yes, I’ve got my moments (read: procrastinate) but don’t we all?! Whether in the office or not? So maybe housewives/SAHM don’t have to leave the house everyday to face colleagues and/or clients but they’ve got their daily grind to deal with too. Different folks, different strokes right? What makes our domesticity so much less important than sitting in front of a computer daily?

I love A – and Pocket!! – and I would also love a word of thanks, just every so often 🙂

The following are some questions and answers between a husband (H) and a psychologist:

P : What do you do for a living Mr. Bandy?
H : I work as an Accountant in a Bank.

P : And your wife?
H : She doesn’t work. She’s just a Housewife.

P : Who makes breakfast for your family in the morning?
H : My wife – because she doesn’t work.

P : At what time does your wife wake up to make breakfast?
H : She wakes up at around 5 am because she cleans the house first before making breakfast.

P : How do your kids go to school?
H : My wife takes them to school – because she doesn’t work.

P : After taking your kids to school, what does she do?
H : She goes to the market, then goes back home to cook and do the laundry. You know, she doesn’t work.

P : In the evening, after you return home from the office, what do you do?
H : Rest! Because I’m tired after a day’s work.

P : What does your wife do then?
H : She prepares the meals, feed the children, does the dishes, cleans the house and then puts the children to bed.

The daily routine of a wife starts early in the morning and only ends late at night.

Appreciate your wives because their sacrifice is immeasurable. This story should serve as a reminder to us all to appreciate our partners and the roles they play in the relationship.

When your wife is quiet, there are a million things running through her mind.

When she looks right at you, she is wondering why she loves you so much despite being taken for granted.

When she says she will stand by you, she will stand by you like a rock.

One For The Kids :: Miss Polly Had a Dolly

I will always remember going home after Kindy and asking my mum if she could guess what song I’d learnt in school. I’m pretty sure that 90% of the time, she knew what song it was I’d learnt or was going to sing for her. Needless to say, I was ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of that time amazed by her psychic powers!

I have a faint memory of me looking up at her and saying “How did you know, Mummy?!?!”

In fact, I asked her just recently how it was that she always knew. “YING (my mum has NEVER called me by the baptismal name she herself gave me at birth) there are only SOMANY nursery rhymes. If it’s not THIS song, it’s THAT. How hard could it have been to guess?!”

I was a tad disappointed to know my mum hadn’t been spying on me at Kindy but who am I kidding?! She’s never been that kinda mum 😛 Her reply has, however, strongly resonated with me ever since I started teaching kindy because ermahgerd – I have “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” coming out of my nose and am having recurring “Bah Bah” nightmares. As a result, kindy teachers have to be SUPER creative and actually jazz things up, just to keep ourselves alive. My boss – she’s faaantastic. I’ve learnt all these variations of traditional nursery rhymes and have even taught them to friends with kids. I’ll share them with you in time to come 🙂 But today, let’s kick back, ol’ skool style.

When I first heard my boss sing “Miss Polly Had a Dolly” with the kids, a ton of memories came flooding back! If you don’t commit the lyrics to memory, this nursery rhyme’s actually pretty difficult to just “wing it”. I’m proud to say that after spending a night humming the damn tune and singing the song to myself – and the kids – over and over and OVER again in the last 24 hours, I’ve successfully added this to my repertoire of nursery rhymes *LOL*

Miss Polly Had a Dolly

Miss Polly had a dolly
Who was sick, sick, sick,
So she called for the doctor
To be quick, quick, quick;
And he came
With his bag and his hat,
And he knocked at the door
With a rat-a-tat-tat.

He looked at the dolly
And he shook his head.
He said “Miss Polly,
Put her straight to bed.”
He wrote on a paper
For a pill, pill, pill,
“I’ll be back in the morning with my bill, bill, bill!”*

*This last line is per the Wiggles’ version of the nursery rhyme. Alternatively, you can end the rhyme with “I’ll be back in the morning, yes I will, will, will!” Lyrics courtesy of KIDiddles.

it was one of those days…

… when the skies could not decide if they wanted to stay blue or gloomy.

… when I simply could not drag myself out of bed, even though I had heaps to do.

… cooking dinner was a chore and because my heart wasn’t in it, dinner just tasted BLAH.

… I really hated myself for feeling so YUCK.

… I could not wait to get over and done with, so I can start afresh with the new day.

it was just… ONE OF THOSE DAYS.

Dressing up on a budget!

So in “commemoration” of the end of this financial year, A and I will be going to the Boobalicious Ball, a charity gala in support of Breast Cancer Care WA. It’s still some months away but I got excited and started looking for a dress, the minute I knew we were headed for the ball! 😛

I’ve always been pretty thrifty I suppose and simply cannot fathom spending unnecessarily… I get all guilty if I think I’ve overspent and so I’ve done my best to base my shopping philosophy on NEEDS and not WANTS. It doesn’t matter if I deserve something – if my laptop’s not broken, for example, why fix it?! – I have to really NEED something before I’ll splurge.

That said, I knew I didn’t want to spend hundreds on a dress that I was potentially going to wear only once… Or twice if I’m lucky! I also knew that it has to be a long/maxi dress and if strapless, should not be falling off my flat chest 😛

I scoured and I searched – online – day after day, night after night but everything I found was either not within budget or simply not appropriate for a ball! Oh how I lamented to A that I would never find THE dress and would most likely have to settle for something “expensive” that I’d have to alter (to fit me) and that in spite of all the effort and money spent, I probably wouldn’t get to wear it again. I know I was just being a drama queen and a lazy one at that, so I finally decided to get off my arse and pop into the shops on my recent day off, since it was clear that simply online shopping just wasn’t going to cut it.

I didn’t think I would find anything off the racks that would fit my petite frame and I definitely didn’t think that I would find it at Ally! But I did, I did! I soooo did find THE dress that ticked all the boxes:

(1.) It’s long.

(2.) It’s cheap.

(3.) It’s ball-worthy.

(4.) It’s strapless and doesn’t slip off my flat chest.

(5.) It’s beautifully drapey and grecian… and I love it! 🙂

So, what d’ya think?! Did I do well or what?!

Even though A didn’t gush upon seeing me in the dress, I’m pretty sure he approved 😛 I’ve also gotten the Whatsapp stamp of approval from the best friend with respect to my choice of statement neckpiece, so all that’s left to do is purchase some footwear and a new clutch – I have my eyes on THIS Religion baby – and Boobie Ball, here we come! 😀

The humble spray bottle

It’s almost liberating (but oh so mundane to some) that I’ve recently discovered the wonders of misting a shirt prior to ironing, so as to get the shirt crisp and wrinkle-free!!

I have been battling with A’s shirts for a while now because they just DO NOT stay wrinkle-free, even after much pressing! He sure didn’t seem to mind or even notice but seeing those crinkly wrinkles despite all my hard work was soooo annoying!

It turns out that all I needed this entire time was a humble little spray bottle and some water and voila! Wrinkle-free work shirts for A that actually appear IRONED!

And now, peace has once again been restored here on earth xx

Downtime Sleepy Hat

I read Zhing’s post on tips for flying with babies/kids and loved it! I’ve been on flights with BAWLING babies and while I feel so bad for both baby and mummy/parents, I’ve always wondered what us big people could do for the little ones to alleviate whatever discomfort they must be experiencing.

So Zhing, THIS is for you! Zoe B’s Downtime Sleepy Hat for Blake – what a nice “first flight” pressie it’ll make 🙂

Sometimes..

… I miss the life I once had. Sitting in the bus and watching the hordes make their commute into the city reminds me of a time when I used to wake to text messages and emails, all before I could even brush my teeth.

5 and 6 inch heels sit in my wardrobe as memorabilia from a life I once had. These days, I pull on a uniform, clean poo off the bums of snotty kids and read “Where is the green sheep?” (and really, I don’t care for that green sheep after the fiftieth time of reading that damn book.)

These days, I also cook, clean and look after a husband and a puppy dog. Do I love them and everything that I do? With every breath that I take and more…

But sometimes.. Just sometimes.. I get to thinking about life as I knew it to be.
